Horsemanship at Crossroads Ranch

Horsemanship Approach

Our approach to training and riding horses at Crossroads Ranch is based on the horse’s natural tendencies and behavior. Owner and expert horseman Josh Guin has an amazing ability to understand horses. That skill has helped Josh in developing natural methods of training based on horse instincts and psychology. His method of training is based on original T.R.U.E. Success method. T.R.U.E. is an acronym representing the four steps in achieving success with any horse:

  • Trust
  • Respect
  • Unity
  • Expectations

This method works. And through it riders are able to mold the horse into a willing and well trained partner.

Refined communication and a strong bond with your horse will foster and maintain an animal with a respectful and compliant attitude which is KEY to total safety in the ring and on the trail. Josh and his team work with you to help you be a better horseman on the trail by teaching you how to better read your horse’s body language, appreciate his fears and motivations but also to realize when to push onward.  You will also learn the vital and necessary skills needed to be proactive in identifying and understanding potential dangers and challenges on your rides, before they happen.

Meet Crossroads Ranch owner Josh Guin

Growing up in Natchitoches, Louisiana, he developed a love for horses starting at a young age. His first horse experience was at 8 years old. Josh owned an old gelding named Dan. It was then that Josh began to observe the dynamic relationship between horse and human.

Since then Josh has never stopped being a student of the horse. He decided to invest his life into understanding horse behavior, and developing a great way to influence and train horses. He moved to Texas to further his career, and to get a full understanding of horses. He attended Texas A&M – Commerce where he earned a bachelor’s in Agricultural Science and learned all about horse nutrition, growth and development, and training. Included in his curriculum were equine management, nutrition and advanced training.

Today, Josh Guin is a nationally recognized professional horsemanship instructor with more than 15 years of hands-on teaching experience to his credit. He is an active blogger, equine clinician in high demand, and passionate about teaching the values and skills of true horsemanship at Crossroads Ranch.
